End Grain (2017– )

End Grain is a practice-based performance that unfolds through an ongoing negotiation between body, material and site. At its centre are three lengths of wood, cut unevenly and stacked into temporary sculptures. Gellmann moves around, across and on top of them, adding their body to structures that wobble, fall and are built again.

Grounded in improvisation, the work emerges through touch, weight, balance and listening. Rather than functioning as props or symbols, the wood works as a collaborator. Its weight, edges and points of balance shape movement, attention and the space as the performance develops. Nothing is fixed in advance. Each action responds to the physical logic of the wood and the conditions of the site, changing what becomes possible next.

As the work progresses, this negotiation moves from construction towards destruction. Through repetition and sustained attention, body, wood and site gradually reorganise one another, and meaning develops through these changing relationships.
